Cataract surgery
When your vision and everyday activity is affected by cataracts, you don’t want to have to wait for an appointmentYou can request your preferred location when you contact us
Cataracts are very common and can develop in one or both eyes. Whilst usually a condition that develops as you age, it can affect children or younger adults. Generally, it begins as a sensation of cloudiness within your eye but can become worse over time. If you are experiencing significantly blurry, hazy or cloudy vision, and have difficulties carrying out normal tasks, you may require a cataract removal operation.
Effective cataract treatment to restore your vision
At KIMS Hospital we work with expert Ophthalmologists, who are experienced in treating conditions relating to your eyes and carry out cataract removal in a minimally invasive way so that you can return home on the same day of your procedure.
If you are unsure as to whether you have cataracts, one of our specialists will be able to advise you during an initial consultation. Please note, unlike some other services where consultations are available at both of our facilities, you can only book a consultation to discuss cataract surgery at KIMS Hospital in Maidstone.

FAQs
Where will my cataract surgery take place?
For cataract surgery, your initial consultation and all surgical procedures take place at KIMS Hospital in Maidstone.
What does cataract surgery involve?
Cataract eye surgery is a short procedure that is carried out as a day case and commonly takes around 30 to 45 minutes to complete. During the operation, your Consultant will make a tiny incision in your eye so they can remove the affected lens. When the lens has been removed, your Consultant will insert a small plastic lens, called an intraocular implant or intraocular lens, in its place.
If you have cataracts in both eyes, this procedure will usually be carried out on separate occasions a few weeks apart, giving the first eye time to heal and time for your vision to return.
How long will my vision be blurred for after cataract surgery?
Take it easy for the first two or three days after the treatment and make sure to use any eye drops you are given by your Consultant.
You can carry on with most of your normal activities after cataract surgery, although you will need to avoid touching your eye or getting anything in it (such as soap and water) for a few weeks. Most people will experience an improvement in their sight soon after cataract surgery, although your vision may be blurred for a few days.
Managing Cataracts: Symptoms and Treatment
Cataracts are a common eye condition, especially as we age, and can impact your vision and overall quality of life. Though many people associate cataracts with getting older, they can develop for various reasons.
