FAQs
What does a sigmoidoscopy involve?
You will be asked to lie on your left side with your knees drawn up toward your chest. A long, flexible tube with a bright light and tiny camera will then be inserted through your anus to allow your Consultant to see your rectum and sigmoid colon. If, during the examination, your Consultation identifies anything that may need further examination, small samples and photographs will be taken.
When will I know the results?
Your Consultant will be able to advise you on the results following your examination, although any photographs and biopsies with be taken for further testing. Your Consultant will contact you to arrange an appointment to discuss these results.
