Professional Profile
Dr Balasubramanian (known as Dr Bala) has been working with children since he qualified as a doctor in 1993. He completed his higher specialist training at Evelina Children’s Hospital, London and other teaching hospitals in south east London. He worked for the Children’s Acute Transport Service while training at the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and at St Mary’s Hospital London retrieving very sick children requiring paediatric intensive care.After gaining entry into the GMC’s specialist register in 2008, Dr Bala joined as a Consultant Paediatrician at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.
He has special interests in paediatric cardiology and nephrology with close networking with cardiologists at the Royal Brompton Hospital, London and the nephrologists at the Evelina Children’s Hospital, London. He regularly teaches medical students from King’s College London and St. George’s University London, as well as being a visiting lecturer at London South Bank University. He teaches paediatric simulation and resuscitation training for medical students and junior doctors and is a qualified instructor for the European Paediatric Life Support course. Dr Bala says “being a father helps me to view the children’s problems from the parents’ as well as the children’s perspective”.
