Professional Profile

Dr Fai is the lead clinician for pain services at Maidstone & Tunbridge Wells Trust so works with local health commissioners in helping to develop services and modernise referral pathways. This has included work to improve interaction between pain patients and psychological services.

His routine work predominates around spinal interventions for facet joint pain, disc injuries and conditions involving nerve compression. He also has an interest in CRPS (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, formerly known as Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy) and ultrasound guided techniques for nerve injury problems including those related to disc prolapse.

The presence of the Kent Oncology Centre at MTW NHS Trust also means that he and his colleagues have formed close working relationships with the oncologists and palliative care teams including the local hospices, the Heart of Kent Hospice, Maidstone and Hospice in the Weald in Pembury.

Consequently Dr Fai and his colleagues also provide a wide range of interventional cancer pain techniques to enhance a better balance of benefit and side effects from medication during what often is a difficult period for patients and loved ones.
