Children and Young People’s Musculoskeletal (MSK) Physiotherapy
Our CYP MSK Physiotherapy Service is available for children and young people from 6 to 17 years of age.Supporting Children and Young People with Muscle, Joint and Bone Problems
Our Children’s and Young People’s MSK Physiotherapy service provides assessment, advice and treatment for children over the age of six and young people experiencing pain, injury or difficulties affecting their muscles, joints, bones, ligaments and tendons.
We help children and young people recover from injury, improve physical function, manage pain and return to the activities that are important to them, including school, sports and hobbies.
Who Can Access the Service?
We assess and treat children and young people who have musculoskeletal conditions such as:
- Joint pain
- Muscle pain
- Back or neck pain
- Sports and activity-related injuries
- Sprains and strains
- Tendon injuries
- Growing pains
- Hypermobility
- Postural concerns
- Recovery following fractures or orthopaedic treatment
- Persistent or recurrent musculoskeletal pain
The service is available for children and young people from 6 to 17 years of age.
What Happens at Your Appointment?
Preparing for Your Appointment
Please wear comfortable clothing that allows movement and bring:
- Any relevant medical information, clinic letters or post-operative notes
- Details of current medications
- Orthotics, braces or supports if used
- Suitable footwear for assessment where required
Initial Assessment
During your first appointment, a physiotherapist will:
- Discuss your symptoms, medical history, and goals
- Assess movement, flexibility, strength, balance, and function
- Identify factors contributing to your symptoms
- Provide advice and develop an individual treatment plan
We ask parents or carers to attend appointments where appropriate.
Treatment and Support
Treatment is tailored to the individual and may include:
- Personalised exercise programmes
- Strength and conditioning advice
- Pain management strategies
- Guidance on returning to sport and physical activity
- AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill
- Injury prevention advice
- Posture and movement education
- Self-management techniques
- Advice for parents, carers, schools and sports clubs
