As we age, the fat that supports the skin around our face can drop, leading to deep folds and sagging. A facelift (rhytidectomy) is a cosmetic procedure that tightens and lifts the skin and tissue of your neck and face to improve its overall appearance.

Helping you reach a decision through professional and supportive advice

We work with a team of specialists that have vast experience in performing cosmetic and plastic procedures and will support you every step of the way.

When you book a consultation, you can choose to have this at KIMS Hospital or Sevenoaks Medical Centre and will be seen by the Consultant who will actually perform your surgery. Your facelift surgery will be performed at KIMS Hospital and your Consultant will provide you with guidance on the results you can expect, the recovery time and the additional information you need to help make the right decision for you. They will also follow you all the way through your recovery to help you get the best possible results.

FAQs

What does a facelift involve?

For a facelift procedure, you will be placed under general anaesthetic as it can take approximately three hours or more.

Generally, your Consultant will try to disguise the scars in the hairline and the natural creases of the skin around the area to tighten the skin and the tough SMAS (superficial muscular aponeurotic system) layer that lies beneath it.

Where will my facelift surgery take place?

Regardless of where you had your initial consultation, all surgical procedures take place at KIMS Hospital in Maidstone. Most outpatient appointments, including follow up appointments with your Consultant, can take place at either KIMS Hospital or Sevenoaks Medical Centre.

What is the recovery period?

After the procedure, it is likely that your face will have some bruising and swelling, but you may be able to return home on the same day. Your Consultant will also remove any stitches and provide you with instructions regarding your recovery.

You should not drive or operate machinery for at least 24 hours after the operation and should avoid any strenuous activity or bending over for two weeks, after which time it is likely you will be able to return to work.

It will usually take a few weeks for the swelling to go down and for the skin to look natural, and your Consultant will arrange a follow up appointment to check your progress.
