Pre-operative assessment
All patients who have been recommended for surgery by their consultant and who have consented to having their procedure with us at KIMS Hospital, will need to complete our pre-operative assessments. This is an important part of your journey with us, as it helps us to identify any specific clinical needs you may have when coming in for surgery. Enquiries & appointmentsWhat to expect from your pre-assessment
To minimise the number of visits to hospital you need to make ahead of your surgery, we aim carry out any pre-assessment tests on the same day as your appointment with your consultant. These tests include: height, weight and blood pressure. Sometimes we may also need to carry out an additional diagnostics such ECG and blood tests.
Our Pre-assessment Team will also set up your own account on LifeBox, our digital pre-assessment tool. We use LifeBox to help us gather necessary information about your health via an online questionnaire.
LifeBox is very easy to use and allows you to complete some of your pre-assessment from the comfort of your own home, with support from family if needed and where you have access to your medical history.
Our Pre-assessment Team will be on hand to support any patients who are unable to complete their health questionnaire at home.
Once you’ve completed your health questionnaire
Once you have completed your health questionnaire, our Pre-assessment Team will review your information and if required arrange a telephone assessment to confirm or discuss additional information about your medical history.
Some patients may be required to attend an additional clinic, such as for anaesthetic review or to see the physiotherapist.
Confirmed for surgery
Once you are assessed as safe to proceed with your surgery you will have your theatre date confirmed via your LifeBox account.
To help you prepare ahead of your surgery, please read our ’10 things to do before your admission’ document on your LifeBox account.
