What is Trigger Finger?

Trigger finger is a condition that affects the tendons in your fingers or thumb, causing them to catch or lock when you bend them. This happens when the tunnel which the tendon moves (tendon sheath) becomes inflamed or thickened, restricting the tendon’s movement. The finger may snap open with a popping sensation, similar to a trigger being pulled and released.

What treatment options are available for Trigger Finger?

Non-Surgical Treatments

  1. Rest: Avoiding activities that aggravate the finger.
  2. Splinting: Wearing a splint to keep the affected finger in an extended position.
  3. Medications: Anti-inflammatory medication to reduce pain and inflammation.
  4. Steroid Injections: To reduce inflammation and allow the tendon to move freely.

Surgical Treatments

  1. Percutaneous Release: A needle is used to release the tightened section of the tendon sheath.
  2. Open Surgery: An incision is made in the palm to release the tendon sheath.
