TURP FAQs
Where will my TURP procedure take place?
Regardless of where you had your initial consultation, this procedure will take place at KIMS Hospital in Maidstone. Most outpatient appointments, including follow up appointments with your Consultant, can take place at either KIMS Hospital or Sevenoaks Medical Centre.
What does a prostate resection involve?
The procedure will be carried out under general anaesthetic. Your Consultant will put a thin metal wire with a loop at the end into your urethra and up against your prostate. An electrical current is then used to heat the loop, which cuts away a section of the prostate.
How long is the recovery period?
Following the procedure, you will be transferred back to your room to rest. Most patients can leave hospital one to two days after and resume most normal activities within a couple of weeks.
However, it can take up to six weeks before you are fit enough to return to work, particularly if your job is physically strenuous. Your Consultant will advise you further on your recovery during follow up consultations.
