FAQs
Where will my surgery take place?
Regardless of where you had your initial consultation, all surgical procedures take place at KIMS Hospital in Maidstone. Most outpatient appointments, including scans and tests, and follow up appointments with your Consultant, can take place at either KIMS Hospital or Sevenoaks Medical Centre.
What does nipple surgery or nipple reconstruction involve?
Nipple surgery procedures can be performed under general aesthetic, so you will be asleep throughout the procedure, or local anaesthetic, where you are awake throughout but the area is numb so you do not feel any pain.
For inverted nipple surgery, the procedure will involve your Consultant cutting around the nipple to separate it from the surrounding tissue and stitching it so that it protrudes outwards.
How long will I need to stay in hospital?
Following nipple surgery, you will usually be able to go home on the same day. Your Consultant will be able to advise you on this during your consultations.
What is the recovery period?
Many people find that they are able to return to most normal activities following nipple surgery, although it is not recommended to do any heavy lifting. Your Consultant will be able to advise you of your recovery period so you know what to expect.
