Nephrology
What is Nephrology?
Nephrology, also known as renal medicine, is a service created to support patients who are suffering from kidney failure or weakening of the kidneys.
Acute vs chronic kidney disease
Acute kidney injury is when your kidneys can no longer clear waste from the blood steam, causing harmful build up. This can be very sudden, often occurring in intensive care patients, causing an unstable amount of chemicals in their blood. If left untreated it can cause long term damage and lead to chronic kidney disease.
Chronic kidney disease is an ongoing disease and cannot be cured. Symptoms develop over time and often go unnoticed at the beginning stages. Treatment focuses on relieving symptoms and preventing further progression of the disease.
Our nephrologists will address acute and chronic kidney disorders and aim to diagnose, treat and help manage symptoms.
