Foot and Ankle Surgery FAQs
How do I know Foot and Ankle Surgery is right for me?
It’s important to understand your options and the reasons behind surgery. Please feel free to book in a consultation with one of our expert consultants to get a professional view of your situation.
Can I walk after Foot and Ankle Surgery?
It is very common for pain and swelling post surgery. Generally this fades within a week, however it can last up to 6 months. Walking is not encouraged as this can cause more pain and prevent proper healing. You are likely to need a assistive tool to help you walk, your physician will discuss this with you.
Do we provide assistive equipment when needed to patients?
We provide patients with assistive equipment to help them walk and to aid healing, depending on your funding method.
- Self-pay – Included as park of your treatment, you can keep these and do not need to return them.
- NHS – These will be hired out to you with no time limit. To return them when you have fully recovered, all you need to do is call the phone number on the side of the equipment.
- Private Medical Insurance (PMI) – This depends whether or not your insurance covers the cost of assistive equipment. Please check with your insurance provider that they cover all stages of your treatment so you don’t incur additional costs.
Recommended aftercare
Post-treatment instructions will be provided to you by your Doctor. This will include restrictions on physical activity, wound care guidelines, Physiotherapy and guidance on post-operative appointments. Be sure to keep off your feet until a Doctor approves for you to walk, walking too soon can prevent healing.
